After hearing OP saying it was intoxication, maybe a more suited one would be:
"Alcohol, Australia's quiet killer"

u/BGP_001 Mar 21 '23
"quiet"

I dunno, maybe he just can’t handle his liquor.
30
u/CommentWhileShitting Mar 21 '23
The same bullshit narrative that you see with first nations people regarding alcohol.
This is the epitome of the issue & the toxic booze culture in Australia right here "hurr durr harden up, prob cant handle it"

u/djmcaleer93 Mar 21 '23
I wouldn’t say it’s a narrative, rather a fact.
Blokes got some individual issues. Don’t tar everyone else.
10
u/retry94 Mar 21 '23
If someone’s making bank out of an implicit challenge, it is a narrative.
Anything that helps you escape reality is profitable.

My work has mandated we return minimum 2 days a week and have yet to give a good reason other than "coLlABoRatIoN and enGaGemEnt". I do software development, and have a really nice setup at home that beats the shit out of the grotty office hotdesks, which I have to commute almost an hour each way a day to get to. The kicker is my office had a COVID outbreak one of the first weeks back!
→ More replies10
u/MLiOne Mar 21 '23
They just don’t get it do they (bosses/management)? I have a close friend who contracted Covid from being at work. She now has long Covid and ongoing WorkCover case (actually covered and paying). She is medically required to now work restricted hours without loss of pay. Perhaps your bosses need to know about that.
5
u/gleep23 Mar 21 '23
The management does get it, when their staff work remotely, it becomes glaringly obvious management is not required. All the things they do in an office full of staff is not required either, meetings and such.
0
u/typhoonandrew Mar 22 '23
Many in management don’t want to be there either. You might be frustrated with the wrong people.

I work in the CBD and actually saw this guy today about 3:30. He wasn't drunk but had some pretty obvious mental health issues.
I hope he gets the help he needs.
44
u/GrillDruid Mar 21 '23
This is the same guy who was dragged off the tracks at South Yarra Monday. Sounds like he's having a huge breakdown and they keep turning him out.

u/Hold-Administrative Mar 21 '23
Turning him out? What makes you think they have the power to keep him in?

He was outside Parliament Station around 5.00 pm. A couple of us passing warned him that he was close to passing traffic but he was totally out of it.
0
u/Citruseok Mar 21 '23
Wow, I passed parliament station at around 5:30pm on the train. Luckily for me he didn't think of blocking the tracks there.

Oh shit, I also saw him yesterday. He was outside the NGV at the tram stop around 11:50-ish pm and looked very fragile and unwell. Poor man.

I saw this man around 3:30 at Carlton Gardens ranting and raving. Seems he got his step count in then.

We saw him at 1pm on St George’s Rd, wanking in middle of road 🤢 Reported him but guess they didn’t catch him

He’s had a busy day!
20
u/Purpington67 Mar 21 '23
I wonder how many people reported this to police and if they did anything. Obviously the guarding Nazis thing is priority but surely someone could have acted earlier given the fact he was seen being weird all over town?

Some people force the doors on Comeng trains or pull the emergency door releases on the newer ones in between stations. Not optimal to have more people wandering around.
10
u/hannahranga Mar 21 '23
Not uncommon for people to crack the shits and pull the emergency door releases and go run around on track
6
u/gleep23 Mar 21 '23
That happened to me one night 100m from Flinders Street, on a 38° day, with the power out, for 55 minutes!
I did start to feel anxious, and popped a few valium during that time.

So, according to this post and other comments, our guy was spotted yesterday:
Wanking on St George's Street at 1pm
Between Carlton Gardens and the CBD around 3:30pm
At Parliament Station at 5pm
Blocking a train at Richmond Station at 5:30pm
At the NGV at 11:50pm
Say what you will about Shirtless Guy but the man sure gets his steps in.

Bring back mental asylums
0
u/DemonInDenim Mar 22 '23
yep, that's the solution. lock them away from the rest of the world. don't allow them a single chance to receive assistance and live a normal life.
at least show a little empsthy
1
u/DarkSideTonight Mar 23 '23
Releasing people who are clearly insane and are on a path of self destruction isn't empathetic. What's empathetic is realizing there is a humane way to institutionalize the seriously mentally ill who have committed crimes.

32
u/Seachicken Mar 21 '23
When my brother suddenly developed schitzo effective disorder in his early 20s he did something like this. He wasn't an 'addict' and hadn't done anything to bring his mental health condition upon himself (which is an all too common attitude), just something flipped in his brain chemistry and suddenly he didn't live in reality anymore.
Maybe you need to experience someone you know going through this to have perspective, but someone having a psychotic break isn't funny, it's deeply sad.
Even if this individual was on the tracks due to drug induced psychoso rather than another mental health issue more often than not there's some sort of fucked up background which drove them into that.
12
u/jamesdoesnotpost Mar 21 '23
It’s heartening to find people in here with something real to add to the conversation instead of edgelord bullshit.
Hope your brother came through it copes ok.
4
u/Hongohones Mar 21 '23
Thanks mate, exactly. My partner in my 20s would go from being a wonderful bubbly person to delusional and terrified in a matter of days all without realising she was unwell. That anyone would let themselves become so unwell deliberately is an incredibly ableist view.

The injecting room is where they think the hub of the drugs are, where they’ve ascertained that many addicts reside/visit, where they think they can help the most people. If it was moved to where you suggest… Kew, Toorak, Camberwell… it would most likely help less people. Moving an injecting centre as a ‘fuck you’ to a particular community helps no one in the end.
